Hello everyone, I'm raising money for continued restoration of the Bruce "Utah" Phillips Flanger Car , and any donation will help make an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
In October of 2017, The Long Memory successfully relocated Utah's old flanger
/caboose from Vermont to it's new home at Black Butte Center for Railroad Culture
. BBCRC is located on the outskirts of Weed, CA, near the western slope of Mt. Shasta. For being nearly 120 years old, it's in remarkable shape, but it does need a little work. Our goal for 2019 is to replace the roof with a white membrane material and connect the flanger to the existing onsite solar grid system.
As you can see in the following photographs, the roof is rustic but in desperate need of repair. We plan to replace the existing roof with a white membrane roof. The new roof will help keep the car cooler in the hot summer months and also be a cost effective way to weather proof the car without resorting to extensive and cost prohibitive restoration work.
The interior of the car has been outfitted and is ready to go. We have installed a low-voltage lighting system that currently runs on two 6 volt batteries and 160 watt solar panel. In the spring of 2019 we will trench a power line to the the utility building and connect the flanger car to the solar grid.
