UPDATE:
WE ARE SO OVERWHELMED AND BEYOND GRATEFUL FOR THE GENEROSITY OF THOSE IN OUR CIRCLE. I CANT EVEN PUT TOGETHER THE WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW THANKFUL WE REALLY ARE. THE LAST 24 hours HAVE BEEN A VERY EMOTIONAL JOURNEY AS WE HAVE PROCESSED EVERYONES GENEROSITY.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US STAND WHEN WE HAVE NOT HAD THE STRENGTH TO DO SO…
I have come to the ends of desperation by starting this go fund me.
On the 23rd May 2023, my husband, Graeme, suffered an Ischemic Stroke with some devastating life long deficits. He is not able to return to work, or drive in the foreseeable future as he has suffered with 60% permanent vision loss. He suffers with severe post stroke fatigue, balance issues, left side weakness and inattention. In order to get him out of the house he is confined to a wheelchair. With ongoing medical treatment and services, Physio, OT, specialist we are being forced to play the game of what can we afford?
As you can imagine, this has left a devastating impact on our family. Since his stroke, I have not been able to work, our business has suffered substantially and we have both been left with no income. Government payments take a LONG time to be processed, so the waiting game is still expected to take several months.
Graeme thought he had TPI insurance with his super, but it’s only for cover for death. Trying to withdraw super has become increasingly difficult, and the paperwork required is beyond ridiculous. We are unsure of the full cost extent of house modifications required so we can not claim until we have quotes for everything from Super. NDIS can not be claimed yet until his rehabilitation specialist reviews him in the coming months.
I am currently doing all of his care, including taking him to his therapies and outpatient appointments and have had to make some choices between the rest of the families healthcare needs vs Graemes healthcare needs.
no body in Australia should have to make those choices but now we are down to our last $ and no sight of income support coming in anytime soon, I have bills overdue and piling up.
I have felt so much shame in setting this up, but clearly I am desperate right now. Any small donation will be greatly appreciated to help lift the burden and stress currently felt in trying to keep up with our bills and food on the table.
