Since 1946, our motto has been "bring yer ma bowlin'!" Pioneer Bowl has been a small independent, family business since it was built 80 years ago. To this day, Pioneer Bowl remains a Mother & Son endeavor, first with Ron and Gladys Young, and now with Valerie and Ben Lee. Some might think we are a little kooky, others would call us preservationists, running a business that is really a living, operating museum. We have crazy employees, some who worked for us over 20 years ago, who have come back to donate their time and wages just to keep us going, because they love the place?!? Who does that?
Many say we are the best kept secret in Pioneertown. As the LA Times asked in 2001, "Why is there a bowling alley in the middle of the desert?" ...and yet here we are 80 years later... and still kicking. We now have our new kitchen, which used up all our savings and funds. Being closed by COVID for almost 2 years really wrecked our budget. Putting in a new septic system put us back another year more. Now we are finally open for food, drink, Bowlin, pool and likker. However, we really want to have hot food, not just sandwiches. Pizza is the perfect partner for bowling, a 1950's soda shoppe menu, and cocktails. Why not help us purchase and install a special pizza oven designed for small kitchens like ours, with just a little bit uv yer money? We are so close, but with the expense of maintaining a rare vintage wood alley, (one of the few left in the country) and constructing a brand new kitchen to get our permit, we just can't afford it. Every dollar will get us closer so we can expand our hours of operation, hire more staff & have fabulous pizza in pitown. We already have a professional pizzaiolo ready to train us, and start slinging pies for us inside the building, instead of outside.
He has been serving his masterpieces at many of our special events for the past five years while we worked on the kitchen. We would like to continue to operate as an independent business, be profitable with a reasonable overhead, and still have a small footprint in the Pioneertown community.
