What is AfrikaBurn?
AfrikaBurn is the South African version of Burning Man and the spectacular result of the creative expression of participants who gather once a year in the Tankwa Karoo to create a temporary city of art, theme camps, costume, music and performance!

AfrikaBurn is a community of participants who come together to create art, burning structures, costume, performance, theme camps, music, mutant vehicles and much, much more. All of this is created through the volunteer culture of the citizens of Tankwa Town in the Karoo once a year.
AfrikaBurn’s aim is to be radically inclusive and accessible to anyone. The touchstone of value in our culture will always be immediacy: experience before theory, moral relationships before politics, survival before services, roles before jobs, ritual before symbolism, work before vested interest, participant support before sponsorship.
Nothing is for sale but ice at the event. Nothing. There are no vendors, no advertising or branding. It just doesn’t fit in. It’s not even a barter economy – it’s a decommodified zone with a gift economy that’s about giving without expecting anything in return.
We are a bunch of DJs and music lovers who will be participating in next year's AfrikaBurn (2020), and we need your help to bring our artwork to life.

This is where it all began:
Just like previous years, we will be gifting a music theme camp (PRESS PLAY) that will be pumping great tunes for all to enjoy. Next year (2020) however, we want to up our game and also include a mutant vehicle to our camp, in the shape of a giant BOOMBOX
During the day this mutant vehicle will travel across the playa to entertain all walks of life congregating in this magical place. In the evenings the BOOMBOX will park at our camp were the fun will continue until early hours of the morning.
This BOOMBOX will be built around a 5 ton truck and will have a DJ booth. Plus we plan to bedazzle you with an incredible lighting display of almost 10 000 fully programmable music reactive LED lights, and one kickass sound system that will blow your panties off with some of the best tunes at AfrikaBurn!
Sound check and calibration of our rig:
To make all of this happen, we need your support! We already have a 5 ton truck and the entire sound system (sponsored by some very generous individuals). All that is left is to build the structure and the high tech LED light system. The entire project will be funded by donations and every little bit helps ... we only need a Euro for every LED! Since Eskom cant keep our lights on - maybe YOU can!
Every person who helps us with this project will be entered into a lucky draw to win ONE FREE ticket to next year's AfrikaBurn!! (You can gift the ticket should you already have one or cant make it.) Winner to be anounced by the 31st of January 2020.
ALSO, to show our appreciation to everyone that has helped us get this project to Afrikaburn 2020, we will be spreading the love: In collaboration with the *Lions Club International Foundation, our PRESS PLAY BOOMBOX will host a free concert for a designated orphanage in a small town of the the Western Cape. By helping us get our project to AfrikaBurn, you’ll also be directly responsible for putting a smile on a child's face, and helping them experience a little bit of that AfrikaBurn magic. Photo’s and videos of the event will be sent to you.
