The Bonfire Sessions: Litter Removal Project

Donation protected
We are in the middle of a pandemic. People are getting sick and dying. Millions are losing their jobs or having their hours severely cut. Unemployment Insurance claims are moving at a snail's pace. So, we at The Bonfire Sessions podcast are getting creative, but we will need your help to do this.

On top of the financial troubles this pandemic has caused the world, including our members, The Bonfire Sessions podcast has had to go on indefinite hiatus due to the stay-at-home order. Because of this, we are taking this opportunity to spend our time wisely. What we are doing is putting our money where our mouths are. Instead of talking on the show about how we care about the environment, and how we need to take steps toward healing our planet, we're going to be travelling all around Butte County, California, picking up trash. We'll be spending time in parks, on trails, near creeks, and wherever other hot-spots are, with the hope of eliminating as much litter as possible. How much can we accomplish? Well, that depends on how much help we can get.

We are starting with a goal of $5,000. The money will go towards reusable bins, gloves, vests, and dump fees. We will recycle cardboard, glass, and aluminum when possible. Any money left over will be put aside to carry us through this crisis. Should we reach our financial goal, the hosts will continue to pick up trash as long as possible, with the ultimate goal of eliminating every piece of trash that scars our beautiful landscape.

How and when will we work?

Glad you asked: Both hosts will work together at least twice weekly, and Matthew will work every afternoon, rain or shine.  Roughly 20 man-hours will be spent per week, given we reach our financial goal (after all, bills must be paid). Photos will be posted regularly on The Bonfire Sessions Facebook page , to show the progress we are making.

Why Butte County?

First off, that's where we live. But secondly, after the Camp Fire destroyed Michael's town, many were displaced. This put a huge burden on local communities, which has caused litter to become an ever-growing problem. And it has only been exacerbated due to the social distancing policies (people cannot get together to volunteer). The hosts would like to change all that.

With all that said, please take a moment to donate. If you are a business in the Chico or Paradise, California area, a cleaner town means a more thriving business. If you don't have the means to donate, please share on social media. You never know who you will reach. When we all work together for ecological justice, we can move mountains. Not only will cleaning up our landscapes and waterways make our day-to-day lives more beautiful, but we can start to heal our planet.

Thank you for your consideration. Peace and love and all that good hippie stuff!
