What is the Documentary?
After 400 years of protesting, we are in the same exact position. We have the blueprint for how to make a black life matter in America. But in order to make that dream a reality, we must bridge the gap between the passion of our protest and learning to strategically change the structure and narrative of American politics.
-Philip Singleton (Hip Hop Lobbyist)
The Blueprint: How to Make a Black Life Matter in America is a documentary I consider to be long overdue. What we plan to do here is go beyond anything filmed before and expose the often unrecognised depths of oppression faced by the black community today and the shackles we are told no longer bind us. We are taking our flashlight down into the dark cavernous pits of America, bypassing the Do Not Enter sign, and shining a light on the skeletons hidden in the shadows. But this alone is not enough to create change.
This documentary is called The Blueprint: How to Make a Black Life Matter in America for a reason. It proposes to not only bring awareness to the current struggles those in the black community face but also to present a plan, a blueprint, on how we can create real lasting change. In order to do this, we will be traveling the country interviewing black professionals in various influential sectors such as government, housing, education, etc., and asking them for their theories and guidance on the problem we face and the actions we can take to create a thriving black community in America.
As this project belongs to the community, everyone who makes a donation will be an associate producer and will have their name appear in the credits as such.
Lastly and most importantly, the majority of profits earned by this project will be donated back into the black community.
What the project needs to become a reality.
This documentary is currently filming, but there is still so much work to be done.
We understand that many people are frustrated at not being able to join the protests due to the pandemic or just prefer to help out in other ways. If this is you, consider lending a hand in making this project a reality.

THE AVERAGE COST OF A DOCUMENTARY?
You can start with an estimate expressed in terms of cost per finished minute of video. As a rule of thumb, a lot of producers assume that a finished corporate production or high-quality YouTube video will cost about $1,000 per finished minute of footage. From there, you can extrapolate the final cost based on length. A 90-minute documentary will therefore cost $90,000. When making something of higher quality, say a project that will run as a feature that will show in theaters or festivals, then you might be looking at production costs ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 per finished minute...or possibly more, depending on the various factors involved. That said, those baseline estimates - $1,000 to $10,000 per finished video - will give you something approaching an idea of how much a documentary will cost to make. A public television documentary may cost several hundred thousand dollars, even upward of $1 million to make. Here are some of the factors that will influence that final cost.
SHOOTING COSTS
The first of the costs is the shooting costs. This includes the cost of the crew, which can cost $1,700 per day for a small crew to $1,700 per HOUR for a larger, more experienced crew or even more, depending on the size of the crew needed. The more cameras, lighting and so on are needed, the greater the costs.
Shooting duration will also impact the cost. Then you have location costs. Filming exterior shots and other outdoor locations involve permits, travel and so on, which can be quite expensive depending on the specifics. Then you have the cost of any graphics which can be costly if being professionally done through a studio.
And lastly talent, with varies in cost. A Narrator like Will Smith or Dennis Dexter Haysbert can range from $15,000- $30,000. Then on camera talent will mostly be donating their time but in case some celebrities are not. Pay scale can range from $1,000-$,5000, All these factors vary.
POST-PRODUCTION EDITING COSTS
Editing, much like shooting, will increase in cost the longer it goes on as well as the greater the editing needs are. A professional editor will usually cost $1,000 to $2,500 per day, depending on the experience of the editor, the quality of the work. Post-production expenses, such as graphics, soundtrack and any sound effects, will increase cost.Third-party material, such as music or video footage, clips and so on, will also need to be licensed should the project have any commercial intent whatsoever. This licensing can cost a lot to acquire, especially if multiple copyright holders are involved.
DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING COSTS
After the documentary is shot and cut, another component in the true cost of a documentary is going to be the costs of distribution and marketing.
When time comes to get this film distributed, into festivals and so on, I'll likely need to pay a distributor, to get the film where it needs to go.
Then marketing, Traditional marketing campaigns - trailers, posters and so on - have been superseded by those on YouTube, Facebook and other channels, but there are still costs for these activities, So I’m looking to raise $100,000
