The BIT
For the second time in less than 60 days, on April 17th our Waverly Community Food Hub was broken into. And this time was vandalized.
Whoever did it left a tidy food program space we are proud of, in complete disarray: emptied our freezers and refrigerators, took hundreds of cans of food, soaps, sanitizers, computers, bicycles, wifi, fans, AC and a lot more. It will take many days to have an accurate inventory of the loss.
All of this is cruel and pointless and hurt the people of Waverly and North Baltimore the most.
We don’t charge for food and whoever is in need, only has to call.
Your donations will be used to replace essential items lost, including:
- food
- soap/sanitizer
- bicycles for youth transportation to work
- fans for the elderly
- repairs
A special thank you to the Baltimore Police Department - Northern District and our volunteers Francesco and Joe, who helped us secure our space.
We don't know, at this time, if we can continue to stay in this space, but we know that this Community needs us. We will do everything in our power to stay here in safety for our team and to work toward a long term solution that doesn't expose us to this risk.
A few weeks ago, when we could not even imagine an event like this, our good friend Kevin Brown of Station North Arts mentioned the power of $1.
Inspired by what he shared with us, we are here to ask you to donate $1 and help us share this campaign as widely as possible. We are confident each of your friends can invest just $1 in the work we do.
