Please Help Support The Biggars Family Through an Unexpected Medical Crisis

Around 3:30am on September 4th, my Aunt Michele was rushed to the hospital struggling to breathe. She was immediately placed on a ventilator and transferred to the ICU, where she remained in critical condition for several weeks. Doctors discovered she was battling pneumonia, sepsis, and severe heart complications — her heart functioning at only about 25%.

While she has made incredible progress since then, Michele’s recovery journey has been long, unpredictable, and filled with challenges. She continues to face recurring infections, including sepsis and pneumonia, and is preparing for an important transfer to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ, where specialists will work to uncover the root cause of her complex medical issues.

Throughout all of this, her wife Kerri has been by her side every step of the way — caring for Michele, managing medical appointments, coordinating home health visits, and raising their five children: Rikki, Torri, and the three youngest, who are still in elementary school.

A Heartbreaking Financial Reality —

Due to Michele’s condition, Kerri was forced to make the incredibly difficult decision to close their family business of over 30 years — a business originally founded by Michele’s late father and proudly carried on by Michele until her health rapidly declined. This business was the family’s primary source of income, and losing it has been both emotionally and financially devastating.

Now, the entire family is surviving solely on Kerri’s teacher salary of $21/hour, which is simply not enough to sustain a family of six — especially while covering household bills, medical expenses, ongoing care needs, and travel costs for the upcoming Mayo Clinic transfer. To make matters even more challenging, Kerri was denied financial assistance through the welfare office, leaving this fundraiser as their only remaining lifeline.

On top of that, Kerri must continue taking unpaid time off work to care for Michele and the children, making it even harder to stay afloat.
