On July 18, 2018 Matt and I had 3 beautiful, strong, and individual sons. We nicknamed them The Big 3 Zs.
As most of you know, Owen is still fighting his battle against his lungs while his two brothers, Silas and Cooper watch over him sending him all of their courage and strength. Each of our sons had a personality, Cooper being the most fiesty baby kicking and doing summersaults every ultrasound, Owen being our Type A baby but always playing defense against Cooper, and Silas our quiet baby tucked away from his rowdy brothers. They were meant to each be 5 pounds, born at 34 weeks, and due on Labor Day weekend. Instead they came too early, only 24 weeks into my complicated pregnancy, without Matt and I having time to prepare or celebrate. No time for a baby shower, no time for purchasing a car that would fit three car seats, no time time find a job, or even our next home.
This season of our lives has been dedicated to standing by our sons’ bedsides. Matt and I have devoted our careers to helping others through tragic injuries, pain and recovery. But for the last 150 days, instead of going to work to rehabilitate and heal others, Matt and I have gotten up each morning, walked in to a hospital, and had to sit on the receiving end of the bedside. We are not good at being helpless, asking for help, or accepting it. We give easily, but have a difficult time receiving.
But so many of you have asked “How can I help?” “What can I do?” “What do you need?”
So, now, after 150 days, I’m finally answering you. You can honor our boys by helping Matt and I celebrate and prepare for the next chapter in our lives. We can’t thank you enough for continuing to ask, give and shower us with love and support. We will never be able to thank you enough for everything you have already done.
With Love and Respect,
