Hello friends, my name is Darian, and this is my little buddy Beaker

Beaker has been my furry companion for the past 9 years. About a month ago, Katie and I noticed he wasn’t breakin’ like he usually does. So we became very concerned and brought him to the emergency hospital. Over the course of a week, his health slowly declined as we tried to figure out what was going on. We were in and out of ER vets, primary vet visits, and overnight stays.

After many tests and seeing a specialist, we discovered Beaker has a genetic heart condition called HCM, which had caused his heart to fail. Although this disease is not curable, it is something that can be managed. So to manage this, we started him on a medication regime to help manage his symptoms and get him back to a more normal life. However, this medication, coupled with a drastic decrease in appetite and dehydration, was extremely hard on his kidneys. So we are in the middle of developing a plan that will treat both extremes of his issues to ensure that we give him the best quality of life that we can.

The tough part of all of this is that Beaker’s vet bills have been nothing short of astronomical. We want nothing more than to find out how we can best take care of our boy, but the test that have to be run on him to ensure that are extremely specialized and therefore, not cheap. It’s already been a huge emotional burden for us watching our fur baby suffer through this difficult time, as well as dealing with the anxiety and fear of the unknown for what’s in store for Beaker’s future. if anything, the financial aspect of this is only an additional stressor through all of this.

Beaker has impacted the lives of my friends with his gentle, loving spirit, and I want him to continue to be able to bring that joy into everyone’s lives for as long as possible.
