We’re building a forever farm dog sanctuary rooted in second chances - for strays, seniors, special-needs dogs, and the overlooked misfits who deserve a safe place to belong.
My husband, Joey, is a medically retired combat-wounded Marine who lost both of his legs after being injured in Afghanistan in 2011. Around that same time, I was navigating my own struggles with mental illness. Though we didn’t meet until years later, we both understand what it means to rebuild a life after it changes unexpectedly.
A veteran nonprofit gifted Joey a specially adapted home on nine acres in Nashville, Tennessee. Wanting to give back, we began fostering dogs in need. What started as a way to help quickly became our calling.
Over the past five years, we’ve welcomed more than 50 foster dogs into our home, dogs with medical needs, trauma, disabilities, owner surrenders, and those overlooked because of their age or circumstances. Along the way, we adopted nine dogs of our own and built our lives around giving animals a second chance.
One dog changed everything.
George, our soul dog and the original Best Boy, was a senior Boxer-Mastiff found as a stray with a 3.7-pound cancerous tumor. Despite everything he had endured, George met the world with gentleness, resilience, and unconditional love. He showed us that abandoned and neglected animals aren’t broken, they simply need a chance.
George inspired a bigger dream: The Best Boy Sanctuary.
Today, we’re working to create a forever farm where senior, special-needs, rescue, and overlooked dogs can heal, retire, and live surrounded by safety, comfort, and love. A place with room to roam, rest, and simply be dogs. Most importantly, a place where they will always have a family and never be forgotten again.
Many people in our community have asked how they can help support this dream, and we are deeply grateful. The Best Boy Sanctuary is currently working toward 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. We are meeting with an attorney to begin the formal process of establishing the organization and building a strong foundation for the future.
At this time, donations are not tax deductible.
Any support received will go toward helping us create and operate our forever farm sanctuary, including support legal and filing fees, nonprofit formation expenses, insurance, permits and licensing, purchasing and developing the property, creating safe living spaces for the dogs, fencing, veterinary care, food, medical supplies, equipment, enrichment, property improvements, and other startup expenses. Our vision is a place where senior, special-needs, stray, rescue, and overlooked dogs can live alongside us as family, receiving the lifelong care, comfort, and love they deserve.
Whether you choose to donate, share our story, follow along, or simply cheer us on from afar, please know how much it means to us. Every act of kindness brings this dream one step closer to reality and helps create a future where more dogs can experience the love and belonging they deserve.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission, in these dogs, and in the power of second chances. We couldn't do this without you, and we're honored to have you as part of this journey.
*Pawpaw and Elmer are currently forever fosters through another rescue. Any funding received through this fundraiser will not go towards their food, medical or anything specifically for them as they are covered by the rescue. But we will give them all the love!
