The center is a non-profit law firm addressing the legal needs of Berkshire County’s underserved population while identifying basic social service needs. In the first quarter of 2023 the center saw a 47 percent increase in clients as compared to last year so the need is great.

The center has offered a Free Legal Clinic since 2006 and currently offers six clinics per month at the S. Congregational Church in Pittsfield, the People's Pantry in Great Barrington and at the Guthrie Center Free Lunch and Free Legal Clinic programs.

As needed social services are often blocks to resolving legal issues, the center aims to be a “one-stop shop” by engaging a social worker who refers clients to the appropriate services.
