Almost There!!! The Bench 988: A Safe Space for Firefighters

It was brought to my attention that I didn't do a great job communicating what this fundraiser is for. I am looking at dedicating a bench in Orlando Veterans Park (Lake Baldwin) and the City of Orlando charges $3600 to put in a brand new bench with a plaque that would be a remembrance for those firefighters who have battled with their mental health. The money will be used just to fund the cost of the new bench. The one in the photo will be replaced with a brand new bench that is all metal and will have a plaque on it but more importantly it will serve as a meeting point for anyone struggling that would like to meet a peer or friend at "the bench". You call someone looking for support and ask them to "meet me at the bench" and it is known that they are reaching out for support.

The Bench 988 is a dedicated safe space where firefighters can connect, talk, and find support when they’re struggling. If a firefighter needs someone to lean on, they simply reach out and say, “meet me at the bench.” Located away from firehouses and workplaces, The Bench offers a neutral, judgment-free setting where firefighters can open up without fear. More than just a meeting spot; it's a movement toward mental and physical wellness, resilience, and fellowship through regular activities like walks at Lake Baldwin.
