Help Rylan (“Raw the Barber”) Through His Recovery

One unexpected injury changed our lives overnight.

Some of you know him as Raw the Barber. Some of you know him as a friend, a teammate, a family member, or simply as the guy who could always make you smile. But what many of you haven’t seen is the reality of what Rylan has been going through over the past several weeks.

Instead of being behind the barber chair doing what he loves, Rylan has been confined to his home, unable to walk, enduring unimaginable pain and making repeated trips to the emergency department as doctors work to manage his symptoms.

Rylan has suffered a devastating back injury that has left him unable to walk, stand, or work. He has three ruptured discs in his lower back, causing excruciating pain, weakness in both legs, and loss of muscle strength and function due to nerve compression. Due to the severity of his condition, his referral to see a neurosurgeon has been expedited. While we are incredibly grateful that his case is being prioritized, the reality is that he is still expected to wait months before surgery.

As someone who is self-employed, the financial assistance available to him is extremely limited. Overnight, the income he relies on disappeared while the bills and everyday expenses continued to accumulate.

The emotional toll has been just as difficult. Rylan absolutely loves being at the barbershop. It isn’t just where he works—it’s where he thrives. He deeply misses spending time with his teammates, but most of all, he misses his clients. Building relationships, sharing conversations, and helping people feel their best is what truly fills Rylan’s cup with happiness. The barbershop has always been his happy place, and having that taken away while he is unable to walk or stand has been incredibly difficult.

I (his partner) am currently working multiple jobs in an effort to keep us afloat, but despite these efforts, it is simply not enough to maintain the cost of living without Rylan’s income. With rent, utilities, groceries, and other essential expenses continuing to accumulate, we are doing everything we can to stay afloat. Without additional support, we will eventually face eviction while waiting for Rylan’s surgery and recovery.

We have exhausted every option available to us. We have applied for every form of financial assistance we qualify for, but because Rylan is self-employed, the support available is extremely limited. We never imagined we would find ourselves in this position, but we are now asking for help from our community during one of the most difficult times in our lives.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping us keep a roof over our heads and cover essential living expenses, including:

● Rent and housing costs

● Utilities

● Groceries and household essentials

● Transportation to medical appointments

● Basic living expenses while Rylan focuses on healing and recovery
