Hello, my name is Angela and I helped found the Badilisha Project in Nairobi, Kenya, in memory of my mother. The Badilisha Project, meaning ‘to change’ in Swahili, addresses the challenges faced by young women in Korogocho, one of Nairobi’s largest slum neighborhoods in Kenya. Here, many single mothers struggle to secure a stable income, often resorting to survival sex due to limited economic opportunities.
The project aims to provide these women with a path to dignity and financial independence, and to support their children. So far, we have worked with 23 young women and 50 children. Two thirds of these women have left the sex trade. One of the key reasons women resort to survival sex is because they cannot afford to purchase food for themselves and their children.
Your kind gift this Christmas could help:
- £1 - buy a bar of soap for a mother and her children. Handwashing with soap is one of the best ways to stay healthy and is particularly important living in a slum.
- £ 5 - buy a educational gift box for a child to include a school bag and a reading/picture book.
- £10 - cover the cost of a food basket for a woman.
- £25 - a month's basic food items for a mother and children.
- £40 - cover the cost of four counselling sessions for a mother wishing to leave the sex trade.
All donations go directly to women and children supported by the project. Nothing is taken in administration costs.
With many thanks.
Angela
