Hi
My name is Fatima Jama. I live in London. I volunteered as an online English teacher for the Hands Up Project in 2018.
I am managing this fundraising page for Batoul Ayman Saqer, a student from Gaza.
Information about household members/beneficiaries:
Ayman Said Saqer aged 53 (diabetic)
Wasem Saqer aged 49 (high blood pressure, seizures and paralysis of hands and leg following stroke)
Batoul Saqer aged 21
Mohammed Saqer aged 19
Abrar Saqer aged 16
Abdulrahman Saqer aged 13
I saw Batoul perform a piece about her future aspirations in 2018. See below for a picture from this day.
Batool got in touch with me earlier today about her family’s situation.
Please help Batool and her family survive this awful period. The family of 6 have requested the following:
$400 for monthly medication (seizure/stroke prevention and thyroid condition)
$1,500 for essential supplies
$42,000 for coordinating safe travel
Message from Batoul:
I am Batoul Ayman Saqar. I am a very ambitious person. I took part in a reading challenge, traveled to London, and performed in a play.
Every word I said in that play became a reality. I graduated from secondary school (tawjihi) with a grade point average of 98.9 and got into the university. I studied two years and achieved high marks, but the war prevented me from completing my studies and realising my dream of becoming a teacher.
I have just memories now.
On 10th December 2023 our home was hit by artillery shells. It was the most difficult night of my life.
7 of my family members managed to escape. 5 family members were martyred including my older brother Ahmad. My brother carried my mother to safety and then returned for my cousins. May God rest his soul.
We evacuated to an industrial area in Khan Yunis and spent the night in a tent. It was a cold night, a night of sadness.
It was not safe for us to return to our home the next day. We decided to head to Rafah and we could not take anything with us, and our suffering increased because my mother has special needs (no access to medicine for seizures).
My mother had a stroke a year ago and is unable to walk (paralysis of legs and hands).
My sister also is also unwell. She has a thyroid condition and urgently needs medication.
The prices in Gaza are very high at the moment. I thought it was very expensive when I visited London but Gaza is now the most expensive place in the world. Please help us by donating what you can.
We want to travel but it will cost $7000 per person and we are now a household of 6. I am including my aunt and her children (all remaining members of the Ayman Saqer family).
Here are some photos. My youngest brother is a huge football fan. I am 21 now.
There are many feelings and feelings that I cannot express…
