The Arturo Hernandez Fund

To Family, Friends, and anyone willing to lend some help,

Our friend, Arturo Hernandez (on June 23rd), started to have extreme stomach pain that radiated around his torso and lower back. This quickly led him to having labored breathing and distended stomach. After being admitted to the ER, he was diagnosed with an acute case of pancreatitis. This is inflammation of the pancreas. During his stay at the hospital, he was also found to have the Corona virus (Covid-19) and this further complicated his condition by introducing corona induced pneumonia and blood clots (putting his immune under even more stress). For the next three weeks, Arturo spent his time hospitalized with not only a breathing tube but a feeding tube as well. Due to pain and disorientation, he was sedated during that entire time. Recently, the concerns have shifted from concerns of Corona to solely his pancreatitis. This past Sunday he had to undergo emergency pancreas surgery to drain a large buildup of fluids because of infection and potentially part of his pancreas dying off. Due to the increased seriousness of his condition, he needed to be moved to a hospital that specialized in pancreas care; however, this was delayed due to lack of insurance and multiple hospitals denying him. Thankfully, a hospital has accepted him and caring for him now.

This entire situation has been a nightmare for Arturo, his family, and his friends. If you know Arturo personally, you already know how much of a good-hearted person he is and would do anything for his friends and family--no questions asked. Some of you might know him through the service industry, a mutual friend or one of his taco Tuesday’s,  but I think we could all vouch for him for always bringing  good energy to the room and making sure everyone was having a good time with some food on their plate and a drink in their hand. It is not like Arturo to ask for handouts or even favors in general but under certain circumstances WE (his family) are asking to please help Arturo in this dark time. Anything is appreciated and we would love to have everyone thinking positive thoughts for his health and outcome. We are looking forward to having him back on his feet, but he will have a long recovery ahead of him that still remains unclear.
