The Arts Project Syracuse provides fully funded transformative arts programming to under-resourced youth in Syracuse, New York.
The TAPS model is to find qualified Syracuse teaching artists and put them through a series of paid trainings to prepare them to best serve students in the Syracuse area. This training is a three step process:
1) Connect Syracuse teaching artists with Los Angeles arts experts, to delve more deeply into their craft and learn from the TAPS network of world-class artists and teaching experts.
2) Connect Syracuse teaching artists with local Syracuse teachers to learn the Syracuse City School District terminology, better understand the SCSD school system, and understand a general idea of what students are learning at school.
3) Connect Syracuse teaching artists with local programs like OG's Against Violence, to help the teaching artists understand more deeply what life might be like for some of these students, as well as to learn methods to understand and help students who might be dealing with trauma.
We are bringing comedy, performing arts, virtual reality, and gaming programming to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse, and this summer we are bringing a Young Women's Comedy and Empowerment curriculum to the YWCA.
