Greetings To Each Of You,
My name is Calandra Barrett. I’m the youngest daughter of the late Arthur L. Barrett Jr. On April 24, 2025, at 8:56 AM, the Lord called him home to receive his heavenly rewards.
For 15 years, my father fought Multiple Myeloma. He participated in conventional and trial studies to help not only himself, but in hopes of finding a cure so that no one had to endure this terrible disease again.
Even after three stem cell transplants, hundreds of chemo treatments, seemingly endless bone biopsies, PET scans, hospital stays, kidney failure, and more, he never once complained about his situation. Instead, he thanked and praised God during his entire journey.
Throughout my daddy’s life, he dedicated his time to serving the people, especially the elderly, of Union, SC. He was adamant about young people and giving them every opportunity available to better themselves. Whether it was through the workforce, two or four-year secondary education, or by joining the US Military, he felt if given the opportunity, our county’s youth would gain the knowledge to help and advance our community. He prayed daily for the children of our county. His prayers have covered many of our children. He believed in the children of Union County, and he made sure that our children believed in themselves.
The Barrett family is pleased to announce the establishment of a nonprofit scholarship program in honor of Mr. Arthur Barrett, Jr. The purpose of the Arthur L. Barrett, Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship is to recognize and support exceptional high school seniors in Union County as they embark upon their next chapter.
Our family prayer is that you will gain the same excitement that my daddy had to help others, support our community, and most importantly, to love everyone you come in contact with each day. My father was often heard saying, “Do it while you can, 'cause when you can’t, how can you.” So please give to this worthy cause in an effort to continue the legacy of love and service to all.
