The Art Place Space

My name is Erica Rosa, and I live in Saginaw TX. I have been an artist and a supporter of the creative arts for my whole life. I believe everyone was created to create. Yet, as adults we often lose that sense of wonder; the daily grind, criticisms, and unmet expectations often leave us feeling devoid of dreaming, creating, and learning new ways to express ourselves.

It is out of this need that the idea of The Art Place was born. I have seen the desire for community and creative expression here in this amazing town that my family and I moved to three years ago. Saginaw is surrounded by cultural arts in cities like Fort Worth and Dallas, but Saginaw itself has yet to blossom with the creativity that is already here.

The Art Place has been in existence since August 2019, and by the end of January 2020 it will be an official non-profit organization. We seek to gather and promote community arts. This includes welding, woodworking, creative writing, poetry, music, dance, theatre, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, drawing, painting, etching, website design, 3-D printing, horticulture, interior design...and everything in between.

I believe that art is not about the end results as much as it is about the journey, the process of creating. I believe we need to support each other and have a safe space to explore these creative outlets that make life explode with color and excitement. I believe that Saginaw is a town full of people who long to be creatively connected and work as a team for something bigger than themselves.

The Art Place has already been providing these creative community opportunities. We have hosted two Paint the Park Days where families came out and painted five cement manholes in Willow Creek Park; we have had a Meet & Greet Planning Meeting where we discussed our different artistic interests and the need for a community creative space; we are doing community thumb print art to be displayed in Willow Creek Park near the upcoming farmers market.

The Art Place will host community classes by local creatives for all ages; we will offer a creative maker space where art supplies and tools are set up in studios and available for community use; we will have a community space where people can gather, hang out, and encourage each other; we will partner with businesses in the community to serve and give back through art.

My intent is to purchase the building for The Art Place where we have a kitchen and can have cooking classes, a shes for woodworking, rooms for classes, and continual gallery space. This will enrich Saginaw and make it a community-oriented, cultural gathering place.

Any donation amount is very much appreciated in order to reach our goal of putting a down payment of $70,000 on a building in Saginaw. The Art Place is a community organization, and it will take a community effort to make this happen!
