The Arseny’s- A deserving family in need

The Arseny’s world turned upside down on the 24th of February, when Sam was sent home from work with changes to his vision and cognition. Michelle, Sam’s wife, was concerned but never imagined the rollercoaster ahead. In the next couple of days, Sam was admitted to the hospital where he received countless tests, consultations to various specialists, and many sleepless nights.

Finally, the Arseny’s received the diagnosis of an extremely rare autoimmune disease called Susac’s Syndrome. Sam sustained multiple strokes due to the inflammatory response of the disease alongside temporary impact to his vision and cognitive ability. While the initial hospitalization was difficult, Sam was eventually able to return home.

Unfortunately, Sam has since been hospitalized again, and this time, his condition is even more serious. His health has worsened, and while his family remains positive, the road ahead remains uncertain. Sam is the only Manitoban affected by this rare condition. There are specialists in Canada that may be able to help!

Sam is an incredible husband, father, brother, and son. He has a prosperous career at CN. He is well known for his extraordinary wit, sarcasm, and character, which will be missed by his colleagues and friends during this leave of healing.

Michelle is Sam’s amazing wife and momma! This journey has amplified her strength and commitment to Sam. She is an advocate and the greatest life partner for Sam. Their children, Beckham (6) and Lennon (4), are Sam and Michelle’s greatest gifts and provide the strength to continue to heal and advocate for their future. Her presence is vital, and we want to ensure she has the time and space to be fully there with him, without the added burden of financial stress.

Rare diseases don’t just take a toll on the health and spirit of a family, but also take a toll on finances. With Sam focusing on healing, he will remain off work and the family faces many increasing costs. To name a few:
