The Arctic Circle Artist Residency 2025
Donation protected
Hi friends, colleagues, and art enthusiasts,
My name is Alina and I am multidisciplinary artist currently based in London, UK.
I am honoured to share that I have been selected to participate in The Arctic Circle Residency in May 2025, a unique expedition that brings together artists, scientists, and thought leaders in one of the most awe-inspiring environments on Earth.
In my creative practice, I incorporate bio-spiritual elements and am drawn to the concept of sacred sites, where nature, spirituality, and humanity intersect. In particular, the Arctic—known as the land of the midnight sun—presents an unparalleled experience of prolonged light and shifting soundscapes. I am particularly interested in exploring the Arctic’s powerful and pristine landscape as a sacred space, and in using sound as a way to express the quiet reverence and spiritual resonance of this environment. By capturing and sharing the subtle and distinct sounds of the Arctic ecosystem, I aim to create a body of work that honours and brings awareness to the spiritual value of this fragile and unique area.
I first learned about this residency during the last couple of months of my Master’s at the Royal College of Art, when an artist who had previously completed this residency came to speak about her experience. It was so inspiring and unlocked another dream that I would love to fulfil in this lifetime. I have submitted an application with modest expectations and was beyond happy when I have received a letter of acceptance last week!
However, embarking on this journey comes with significant costs, including travel, residency fees, gear and equipment to document and create during this unique experience. The residency fees are due in January and February, leaving me with insufficient time to secure the necessary funds on my own, so I am reaching out to ask for your support to help make this dream a reality.
Every contribution, big or small, will directly support my participation in the residency. Your support will help cover:
• Residency fees (covering accommodation on the expedition vessel, meals, and programming): 8850
• Travel expenses (flights to and from Svalbard, Norway): approx. 600
Any additional funds raised beyond my goal will be used to purchase additional equipment as well as donated to environmental conservation organisations working to protect the Arctic ecosystem.
Your generosity means the world to me and will play a vital role in helping me bring this project to life. Thank you for believing in me!
With gratitude,
Alina
