The Anti-Bobblehead fund: Help Adam's head not wobble
Donation protected
Hi everyone, this is Maeve. If you're reading this, you likely already know what this fundraiser is for, but I'll recap.
On June 19th, 2023, Adam collapsed in his parent's kitchen. His legs went out from under him multiple times in a short period of time, so Shayla and I took him to the emergency room. He was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst (huge) but released with reassurance that nothing was wrong. Less that two weeks later, we were back for additional neurological symptoms. Within two more weeks, we went back with what appeared to be seizures. He was hospitalized for a couple days and had an eight hour test to see if he was having seizures (he wasn't). When he was released, they sent us home with a "it's not seizures" and a note to follow up with his primary care doctor. This began a series of unfortunate events that led us to a different hospital, neurosurgeons, neurologists, and many nights crying (me). All of us hoped the next doctor would help us. We applied to Mayo only to be rejected because of a miscommunication and faced the decision to have to reapply and push to work with a doctor we already weren't happy with. In the end, google and a sleepless night (Adam) found the solution. We were led through what can absolutely only be explained as miracles straight from the Hand of God to orthopedic doctors, chiropractors, and ultimately a clinic in Colorado who treated Adam for Cranio-cervical instability caused by a deer crashing through his car windshield over a decade ago. Cranio-cervical instability (CCI) is when the uppermost cervical bones in the spine move in ways they are not designed to. This is caused, in Adam's case, by damage to the ligaments that run through the spine and keep the spine stacked correctly. Adam has already undergone one round of stem cell injections. It has made an incredible difference, and he is no longer stuck in his recliner a majority of the time. He can do basic daily tasks, but is still limited by his condition, including how far he can turn his head, how long he can go for walks, or even drive. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who prayed, sent food, or anything else during that time. There were days we (I) barely scraped by emotionally and/or physically.
With that in mind, we are still on the hook for two more rounds of treatment that is not covered by insurance (that we don't have anyway). That's where you come in. We know that we're on the hook for about 12,000 per procedure. We were able to pay for the first one completely out of pocket (bye house fund), but we simply don't have the cash for another round. It took Adam and I six years to build up the cash we had, and it's just not feasible to expect him to live like this for another six years. Our healthshare will help pay up to 5,000 dollars per procedure, so we're going to try and raise the rest. We're still hoping to scrape up some of the cash ourselves, but we also have to get to the appointment, stay in hotels, and pay other doctor bills. We don't expect to raise all 25,000, but it's an estimate of what we still need.
Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts. We hope to be back in tiptop shape and able to visit you all soon.
If you'd prefer to help out, but not use gofundme, feel free to reach out to Maeve directly.
Our love,
Maeve & Adam
