Hello, my name is Laura Perham. I am from Fairfield, Connecticut but relocated to the beautiful state of North Carolina back in 2008 where I quickly fell in love. For those who know me....you know I have a huge heart and an unyielding passion to help and inspire others.
What you are about to read was not easy for me to write. Putting my story down on paper for the world to read made everything feel all that much more real (and overwhelming). Even harder than that, it required me to be vulnerable and do something I have never done before. Ask others like yourself for HELP.
I realized that my silent suffering didn't serve anyone any good or make things better. My story holds a powerful message. I pray that you listen to it, take something from it and share it with others. It may very well change the course of their life!
- I have been suffering from mysterious, debilitating health issues for six plus years now. My life was flipped upside down when I was at the top of my game and I went from "crushing it" to "barely functioning". Yet no one could tell me why. Just another person with Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS).
- Until last summer, when we discovered our HOME was the very thing causing my health to decline.
- Tests confirmed our HVAC System and all the ductwork are grossly contaminated with mold and mycotoxins.
- Genetic testing was done on me to understand why I was more effected than anyone else in the house and results revealed I am part of a small population of people who CAN NOT adequately remove [bio]toxins and other harmful byproducts from the body.
- With that data and additional lab work we finally had a name for my ailment and got diagnosed with having Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). However, additional testing is needed to understand the extent of damage caused by this illness as it impacts multiple systems of the body.
- The biggest concern is determining how much damage my long term exposure to mold/mycotoxins has done to my BRAIN . CIRS decreases cerebral perfusion so less oxygen and nutrients are making it to the neurons within brain. We need to determine if any parts of my brain have atrophied or enlarged. To add context to this, the specialist with whom I I have been consulting with was able to distinguish just by conversation and observation that there is already signs of neurological impairment and we need to find out which regions of the brain have been impacted and how badly.
- To complicate things more, we need to have our home remediated and make it "medically clean" because I have CIRS. So everything hinges on getting a complete and thorough medical workup for me.
