Animal Rescue Kefalonia (ARK)
Founded in 2011, by a team of living people that live on the Island, with the collaboration and the help of the municipality of Kefalonia who provide the land for the shelter.
They rely on donations and volunteers to help fund the shelter.
Aim: To rescue, provide care, shelter & food, rehabilitate and rehome Kefalonia’s stray animal population.
Kefalonia Animal Trust (KAT)
Founded in 2003 by Pat Dolman and other likeminded people, KAT's realised that the only way to control the number of unwanted animals was by sterilisation.
In the first years, only a few animals were sterilised. However, as the years went on and more funding was achieved, the numbers slowly increased. In 2019, 869 animals were sterilised through their scheme, not only strays, also owned animals where the owners couldn’t afford to pay.
They also pay for emergency treatment of the strays
They are funded by their wonderful supporters who donate to them and fundraise via events, fundraising page, coffee mornings and a special Christmas Bazaar. They also have a shop, where they sell 2nd hand clothing, bric-a-brac etc.
They have also negotiated cheap flights with TUI for transporting adopted animals to U.K.
Aim: That no animal will ever be neglected or unwanted on Kefalonia
Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones offers a temporary holding home until a new home can be found for their animals. It typically has a high success rate for adoptions but, unfortunately due to Covid and the inability to get TRACES, (which are required when transporting more than 5 animals) many of their animals are struggling to be rehomed.
They work with other bigger rescue centres on the island and help them with puppies or older dogs.
They were Initially funded out of the founders own pocket, however they now rely solely on donations.
Aim: To act as a holding home until homes can be found for the animals.
Please donate what you can to help these wonderful animals and charities!
