On August 6, our parents, Mauricio and Guadalupe Agustin were rushed to the ER due to COVID-19. Due to their worsening conditions, they were immediately put on ventilators, induced comas, feeding tubes, and were admitted to ICU at separate hospitals. A week later, we received news that dad’s overall condition was not so good - his respiratory status was in bad shape, his legs deteriorated due to multiple clots, had a stroke which diminished his neurological functions, and a collapsed lung on top of the complications…he was slowly dying. The doctor’s professional advice was to remove his ventilator and Do Not Resuscitate as it would cause him more pain and trauma. We prayed so hard, consoled our Parrish priests, hospital Chaplain, and close family and friends, as this was a very difficult decision for us, his children, had to make. The thought of letting our dad go was unimaginable.
While the doctors were waiting on our decision, our mom, who was being treated at a different hospital, was making small improvements, and was on path to weening her off the ventilator. We all expected her to recover. But everything took a turn for the worse - on August 20, her doctor informed us that mom’s oxygen level and blood pressure were dropping abruptly - and at 11:20am, she left this earth and God took her home to heaven.
Dad’s condition was not improving and we knew we had to make the toughest decision of our lives, to let our dad go and let him Rest In Peace. On August 28, at 11:00am, dad’s ventilator was removed and he was transferred to comfort care. The doctors and nurses did their best to ensure he did not experience any pain. Then at 11:56pm, dad passed away peacefully and is reunited with our mother in heaven.
This was very unexpected and we were not prepared to lose BOTH our parents. The offerings collected will be used to cover their medical and funeral expenses. We are very grateful for all the love, prayers, and generous support from our family and friends. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Pali Momi and Queen’s Hospital at Punchbowl.
We are deeply appreciative of all that you are doing for us during this difficult time. We thank God for you and love you all from the bottom of our hearts.
With Love,
Justin & Audrey
