After 15 years in Australia’s Blue Mountains, Stilgherrian is moving back to Sydney this March — and he needs your help to cover the costs and disruption.
Hello. I’m Stilgherrian. You may know me as a freelance media producer, journalist, podcaster, and more — all part-time these days for various health reasons.
(You’ll also know that my name is only the one “Stilgherrian”, but hey, databases.)
In 2011 I moved to Wentworth Falls, “just for a few weeks”. And I’m still there. Finally, a decade and a half later, a good friend has invited me to share his newly-purchased apartment in Campsie in Sydney’s inner south-west.
But cashflows are... not good. Mostly because my freelance work has dried up temporarily.
So I’m seeking your support for the removals — both pulling a household’s worth of goods out of storage (about $1,500) and transferring my everyday possessions down from the Mountains (around $500), as well as something to live on while all this is happening (see below).
There’s bound to be some random unexpected costs as well.
A lot of the stuff I've had in storage for all this time is no longer needed. Some I’ll sell. Some I’ll give away. And everyone who’s ever pledged more than $20 to my projects — in this or any other campaign or just randomly — will be able to join the SEKRIT livestreams or whatever other first-bite methods I invent to give you priority.
Most of those boxes contain books. But there’s also vinyl records, CDs, probably some DVDs, and who knows what else. So stay tuned for news of The Great Unboxening.
As for my living costs, February is being a bit of a write-off and March doesn’t look much better. This crowdfunder is replacing the usual quarterly campaign I’d run on Pozible. The most recent campaign, The 9pm Summer Series 2025, is an example of this.
When you contribute to this crowdfunder, you’ll also be eligible for the kinds of rewards mentioned over there. I’ll list them all here in an update very soon.
I have therefore set the initial target at $5,000. That would cover me making four special-guest episodes of The 9pm Edict podcast in autumn, and we’d also knock out a couple episodes of Another Untitled Music Podcast.
This includes the business costs of running the podcast as well as my own living costs.
Once we reach this first target, I might start looking at the various other tasks that need addressing, such as a new pair of glasses and a big batch of dental work, but one step at a time, right?
Please consider pledging your support. And if you have any questions, please let me know.
So that’s the story for now. I’m Stilgherrian. Wash your hands.
