Do you ever want to do something but wonder if you’re actually capable of it? That was me back in September when I decided to train for my first marathon. But as I leaned into the discipline of training, I realized I didn't want to just run for a medal - I wanted to run for a mission that matters.
Welcome to The 50K Race.
On May 3rd, I will be running 42.2 kilometers to raise $50,000. This isn't just about the physical distance; it’s about bridging the massive funding gap that exists for Black women founders. Currently, less than 0.02% of VC funding goes to Black women-led businesses. We aren’t just running, we’re re-funding the ecosystem.
How the Funds Will Be Used: To be completely transparent about this journey, the $50,000 goal is split to ensure both direct impact and the sustainability of the mission:
$25,000 (The Grant Pool): This half goes directly to seeding and supporting two Black women-led companies. These are founders who are building excellence but are often overlooked by traditional systems.
$25,000 (The Engine): This half fuels the marathon itself - covering admin fees, training requirements, and the visibility campaign needed to make this mission scale.
Why This Matters to Me In my daily work, I see the brilliance of Black women entrepreneurs every day. I also see the stressors they navigate. This race is about doing it anyway - taking it one mile at a time, even if we are "measuring kilometers" over here.
Whether you are a brand that needs eyes on your mission, a sponsor who wants to show you actually care, or just a random internet person who wants to watch a girl figure this out for the first time, I invite you to join the race.
Follow the journey. Support the mission. Let's re-fund the ecosystem.
