April 15, 2022 will be the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson integrating Major League Baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dr. Austin Thorpe and the University of Utah Chamber Choir seek to honor this historic milestone with composer Adrian Dunn through a unique telling of the story with choral music.
Austin Thorpe grew up on a steady diet of San Diego Padres baseball, and most importantly, during the Tony Gwynn glory years. There is something truly magical, truly foundational to be found on the baseball field. As this hallmark anniversary approaches we seek to capture that, to honor the mark Jackie has left there.
Mr. Adrian Dunn is composing an eight-minute choral work that will highlight Jackie's legacy and his modern-day influence on Black lives. Mr. Dunn is an advocate of Black music and Black stories and embraced the opportunity to create this historical narrative. The work will not only showcase a choral ensemble, but two soloists portraying Jackie and several women in his life. Mr. Dunn will join the University of Utah Chamber Choir for a residency in Salt Lake City on April 18 and 19, 2022 with the work being premiered at 7:30 MT on April 19, 2022.
JOIN US IN TELLING JACKIE ROBINSON'S STORY THROUGH A DONATION TO "THE 42 PROJECT." ALL DONATIONS will go to the cost of the commission, the composer's two-day residency, the soloists, and decorative/promotional material to honor Jackie's legacy. We are hoping to have all necessary funds by March 1. Please share the news of this 42 Project with others through social media. Especially during Black History Month, HELP US SPREAD THE WORD as we honor Jackie Robinson as one of the most influential and iconic figures in the history of the United States.
