The 1st annual Kevin Nicoli Murph Challenge
Hello my name is Craig Chmielewski, I am a Corrections Officer with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections and a Sergeant with the 1/182nd Infantry Regiment Army National Guard. Myself and a few of my fellow Corrections Officers, some also military members and Army veterans, are participating in The Murph Challenge in honor of Kevin Nicoli a fellow Corrections Officers, Army veteran, and brother who took his life in August of this past year.
For those who do not know The Murph Challenge is a series of physical exercises done wearing at least a 20lb weighted vest. These exercises consist of a 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and last another 1 mile run. The goal is to complete all the exercises in as quickly of a time as possible.
We are taking part in this memorial challenge in order to raise money to aid in the support ofthe two young children Kevin left behind. We will also be including a memorial T shirt for any donation $30 dollars or more. The shirts will come in OD green and black. PLEASE EMAIL [email redacted]. com WITH A COLOR AND SIZE IF YOU DONATED $30+. All profits from the shirts will go directly to Kevin’s family as well as any other generous donations made to Kevin’s family in his honor.
We also would like to bring to light the growing suicide epidemic amongst military service members, veterans, and corrections Officers. The Army alone lost 114 soldiers to suicide in 2020 which was a 30% increase from 2019. While the veterans daily suicide rate is between 17-18 a day as of November 2020. The suicide rate of Corrections Officers is at an all time high across the country as well.
In closing if anyone is feeling down or like they can’t take it anymore please reach out be it to family, friends, or some sort of support. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this and for any and all contributions in support of Army veteran and Corrections Officer Kevin Nicoli and his family.
