The 1st Annual Cold City Classic

Edmonton is one of the coldest major cities in the world, yet chronic homelessness continues to persist at crisis levels. In September of this year, 2,745 people were experiencing homelessness (Homeward Trust). This puts many individuals at high risk during the winter months as there continues to be a significant shortage of affordable housing, accessible supports, and safe warming spaces. Boyle Street Community Services does extremely important work to address these gaps, and we want to support them in achieving their mission of ending chronic homelessness.

That's why we're riding our bikes for 12 hours on one of the coldest days of the year, January 21st, to raise financial support for Boyle Street Services.

HOW IT WORKS: We'll be completing as many laps as we can of a 20km loop through the river valley, starting at 8 am and finishing at 8 pm. There are 2 ways to donate:

1. Simply donate via the GoFundMe page here in advance of the ride; OR

2. Pledge a $/km completed (actual donations made after the ride). Donations can made per km completed (Ex. if you pledge $1 per km and a rider completes 5 laps for a total 100 km, you will donate $100). These pledges can be made here. Note: please specify which participant you're pledging to (your donation is calculated on just that one rider's total distance). Once the ride is completed on January 21st, your total donation amount can be calculated and the donation can be made on this GoFundMe page here. We'll collect all donations the week after the ride is complete.

All funds will go directly to Boyle Street Services.

As it's the first year, we're keeping it simple, so we'll use Strava to log the ride and calculate the total distance, which will be posted here after the ride is complete.
