The 166mi Walk

Hello.
My names Zackary and on September 10th, I’m going to walk 166 miles, carrying 166 rocks, and with 166 names of individuals who couldn’t take another step. Every mile I walk I will carry one of the rocks in my hand. Giving each name one more mile. Giving that name another mile to help rescue horses and retired service dogs.
…Why am I doing this…
I have lost multiple friends and family members to suicide. In 2021 My brother Greg committed suicide. Greg and I both really admired our cousin Dan Newberry. Dan is a decorated veteran who decided to walk 22mi with full gear to honor and bring awareness to the 22 veteran suicides a day. Greg and I talked about doing the 22mi walk but never got the chance. After his death I decided to finally do the walk, hoping it would help process his death. I started looking into the average number of suicides a day in 2022. The average number at that time that I found was 83 a day. I cringed at the overwhelming thought of walking that far alone in the Arizona heat. So I figured I’d walk my brothers miles as well, and knowing Greg. He would have wanted to share those miles. So decided I’d give Him one and give the rest away to 165 other people who could have use another mile.
…What the donations will do…
All of the donations will be donated to three different nonprofit organizations.These organizations rescue and rehabilitate mainly Horses and Retired service dogs. These donations will determine if some of these animals, literally live or die. Every dollar counts for these animals..The majority of these animals spent their lives in service of us. They gave everything they had to give for our benefit. Now that they have nothing left or can’t perform at the level expected. They are being discarded like an old pair of work gloves. So along with these 166, we hope to raise money to help support these animals who selflessly gave to us. Thank you for your support!
