Hello from Everyone at Eden’s Way Farm Sanctuary!
We have a challenge -- to build a hay barn by the end of this summer!
The last 2 years we had to put together a ‘make-shift’ hay barn but as you can see in the picture, we really need a permanent shelter that can keep our hay properly protected from the snow, rain, and sun. Good quality dry and mold-free hay is essential daily food for all our rescued animals (2 horses, 3 cows, 2 sheep, 3 goats, and 8 rabbits) and this year, we hope to rescue a few more animals, which includes 1 to 2 calves. That means we need a lot of hay, and the animal residents will like go through 1,200 square bales from this fall to next spring along with another 250 straw bales for bedding.
This hay barn needs to be large enough to store this amount of hay/straw but we don’t need anything fancy. Just a basic 8 pole barn with a roof, which will cost approximately $5,000 to $7,000, and this year we cannot afford to build it on our own. So we are hoping to raise at least $3,500 by the summer to go towards it, and we will match that amount to cover the remaining cost.
So desperate times, require desperate measures! Murray and I (the owners/operators of Eden's Way) love to run, and we also love our animals, so we thought we could put them together and run to raise funds for a hay barn. To make it more of challenge, we’ve decided to set a goal to run 1000km (about the equivalent distance from Vancouver, BC to Calgary, AB) over an 8 month period between March and October 2021.
This running challenge will require us to run about 3 to 4 times a week (running from 10 up to 21km, the equivalent of a half marathon!) consistently over this time frame. We may have to dig deep at times but we are up for the challenge regardless of the hot summer weather, rain, wind, and even a bit snow in late October! We will be recording all of our runs using the Nike run app and posting them on Instagram /Facebook as well as posting regular updates on the fundraising and building progress.
So as we run, we are asking our community of friends/family, supporters, and animal-lovers to come along side us and donate to this project. Whether you donate $10 for one km we run – donating a larger one time amount – or donating as we go along or hit distance milestones, any level of support is greatly appreciated. If you can’t help out financially, sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family, or posting it on your social media will be a great help!
Any donations received will be sent straight through to Eden’s Way Farm Sanctuary and will be used to pay for the materials needed for the hay barn. We also intend on being fully transparent on where your donations go.
Please email me directly at edenswayfarm@[email redacted] if you have any questions or would like more information about this fund raiser.
On behalf of our animals, thank moooo very much!!!
Jaye and Murray
