Ten years ago, Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields and Darius Wilmore set out to create something Baltimore had never seen before—a storytelling experience where ordinary people could share extraordinary stories, and where healing, laughter, truth, and community could exist in the same room.
What began as a bold idea has grown into one of Baltimore's most impactful storytelling platforms. Over the past decade, hundreds of storytellers have courageously shared their journeys, and thousands of audience members have laughed, cried, reflected, and found pieces of themselves in the stories told from our stage.
The Short Kuts Show has welcomed an incredible lineup of community leaders, artists, entertainers, and changemakers, including. Nelson Malden (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s barber), Raheem DeVaughn, Mayor Sheila Dixon, Dana Dane, Roxanne Shanté, Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, Kai Jackson, DJ QuickSilva, Dr. K. Wise Whitehead, DJ Tanz, and many others who have graced our stage and shared their stories.
Yet the true heart of The Short Kuts Show has always been the everyday people—the mothers, fathers, educators, students, survivors, entrepreneurs, artists, and community members whose stories of resilience, love, loss, healing, and hope have inspired thousands.
For ten years, we have partnered with museums, libraries, universities, theaters, and community organizations across Baltimore to create spaces where every voice matters and every story has value.
As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we are proud of the lives touched, the conversations sparked, and the community built through storytelling. With your support, we can expand our reach, coach more storytellers, preserve more community stories, and continue transforming lives for the next decade and beyond.
For ten years, we've been changing lives one story at a time. Help us write the next chapter.
