Smith and Byford climbing Ben Nevis for Alzheimer's Society

Donation protected
A small group of us from Smith and Byford will be taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis on Friday 9th May 2025 to raise money in aid of Alzheimer's Society and every donation will help. Ben Nevis is at an impressive 1,345m tall and is the highest mountain in the UK and a long 10 mile hike.

Many of us have been affected by dementia and have chosen this charity to help raise money to support the people whose life has been taken over by this horrible disease and also for all of their families who are suffering or have suffered.

Currently more than 55 million people have dementia worldwide, and every year there are 10 million new cases. As of 2025

1 million people will be living with dementia in the UK, and many millions more carers, partners, families, and friends are affected.

'The Alzheimers Society' is made up of people with dementia, carers, trusted experts, campaigners, researchers and clinicians. It is the UK’s largest collective force of people with unparalleled knowledge and over 40 years of experience addressing the biggest challenges facing people living with dementia.

How 'The Alzheimer's Society' provide help and hope:

Dementia support services
'Through our support line, online and print information, expert dementia advisers and online community, we give advice and practical guidance for the next steps as people living with dementia navigate the hardest times of their lives. Through this vital work, we want people living with dementia to enjoy more fulfilled lives. From the moment someone is worried about memory loss they can turn to us for help'.

Funding dementia research
'As well as the vital help we provide, we bring hope. And we know investment in research is key if we want to change the landscape of dementia in the future. That’s why right now, we’re backing the world’s brightest minds and funding over 600 research projects to find the best ways to get early diagnosis, innovate care and develop targeted treatments'.

Campaign action
'We hold decision-makers to account, using evidence and working with thousands of campaigners to amplify the voices of everyone living with dementia to make dementia the priority it should be'.

If you could could help, by giving a small donation it will really help so much.

More information about Alzheimer's Society: At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground breaking research. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. We don’t want anyone to face the realities of dementia alone. That’s why your support is vital.
