NPLIAJ LIS (THAVEE) VANG

Our dad, was born in Luang Prabang, Laos. He spent his adolescent and youth years going to school in Luang Prabang. He fell in love with a Laotian woman and married her. They have four children. He joined the Lao Royal army in the late 1960s and became a military medic. In 1975, when the Communist Pathet Lao took over Laos, Npliaj Lis was arrested and put into concentration camp. After a year, he and two Laotian friends escaped the concentration camp and fled to Thailand, leaving behind his wife and children. They ended up in Nam Yao Refugee Camp in the province of Nan, Thailand.
In 1979, he immigrated to the United States of America as a refugee. He settled in Portland, Oregon and met our mother, Tong Mua in 1980. They married and started a new life. He left behind four children in Laos but was blessed with four children, Moua Lee, Long Ly, My Ly, and Tu Ly, from our mother’s previous husband who had passed away in Nam Yao Refugee Camp. Npliaj Lis was blessed with four children of his own, Peter Vang, Jay Vang, John Vang, and Lee Vang.
In 1982, they moved to California and started a new chapter. In 1997, the family moved to Minnesota and started another chapter in his life. Npliaj Lis Vaj and Tong Mua always had an entrepreneurial spirit. They started a Nabvam, boba tea drinks, and deli shop inside Hmong Town Market Place in 2003 when it first established. They ran their successful businesses until their retirement in 2015.
We are blessed to have a father who was the rock on which we stand. We are where we are in life because of his support and love. We will be eternally grateful.
All Donations will go towards our father's funeral. No amount is too small. More importantly, please keep us in your prayers during this hard time of loss.
