Thatchers femur fracture
Meet Thatcher Grey! I know, another broken leg? Yes, another one. The high kill shelter sent out a plea today about a 1lb 9oz kitten with a transverse femur fracture. They wanted him picked up ASAP. Because I could not save Dinah, I decided we should help this little guy. (Plus I was sure Dr Rose would be thrilled with a third broken leg). So we pulled him.
After I got him and read his paperwork I was extra glad we saved him because it said they were planning to amputate his leg tomorrow! I can’t imagine amputating a perfectly fixable leg. You don’t just cut things off because they are broken...you fix them. That poor little babe almost lost his life or his leg.
So now, he’s safe with us...and we have to raise funds for yet another fracture repair. Around $3,000 again. His surgery is tentatively scheduled for Monday pending he does well. We would’ve liked to have done surgery sooner but Dr Rose, his team, and I weren’t comfortable doing it sooner due to some meds given at the shelter and them not being able to give their typical meds for surgery due to interactions. So we have to wait until those meds are out of his system.
I sound like a broken record these days but kitten season is brutal this year. I have never in 13 years experienced one quite like this. The amount of sick and injured kittens coming our way is unbelievable. If anyone would like to donate towards the foster kittens care it would be so appreciated. Every single dollar adds up and will help us towards our goal for this little handsome fellow. If you can’t donate please share!
