That orchi surgery cost what!?!?
Donation protected
On 7/15/19 I had an orchiectomy procedure done. This procedure had a two layer goal for me. The first was getting off from meds that their side effects have been getting worse on me. These meds are testosterone blockers and are used in conjunction with estrogen for hormone replacement therapy in trans women. The procedure I had will allow me to get off from these meds for good. The other goal is that it will allow me to change my gender identity on my birth certificate. While I'm really happy with the results and looking forward to being free of now unneeded medications, I'm left with a much larger medical bill than was expected, by nearly double what I planned for. At this time, all the billing for those procedure came in at $10,500. I'm
This procedure was not covered by my health insurance at all due to it being a "transgender related procedure" so I took this on as a self pay client. I can't look back now and wonder "what if I would have known this cost upfront" or "should I have done this?" It's already done and I couldn't be happier! The results of being off from the testosterone blockers alone was worth it!!
But now I go forward and work to pay down this debt. I have found this very hard to ask for help and I've always been someone who made her own way through life without asking for assistance. I'm stubborn and maybe too prideful at times to ask for help when I know I need it or should ask for it. But I need to put that aside and ask for your help if you can. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated beyond words. Thank you and much love!
