We are thrilled to announce that our production, “That Big Voice Inside My Head” will premiere at the Hudson Guild Theater through the New York Theater Festival on June 25th, 26th, and 29th.

Our production team is currently seeking funds to support our artistic process, including rehearsal space rentals, props, set pieces, and costumes. We curated a team of talented artists who have been generous enough to work without financial compensation. Beginning in mid-May, our creative team will be engrossed in rehearsals.

Genre: Dark Comedy

The play centers on SJ– an incoming high school freshman. After her annual physical exam, she develops a distorted body image. SJ struggles to quiet the cruel voice inside her head– which manifests as her imaginary friend, Eliza.

Dorothea’s Note:

I developed this play when I felt the most alone during the height of the pandemic. Like most of the world, I was stuck with myself. I only had the voice inside my head to keep me company. My play interrogates self-criticism in relation to adolescence. Why are we more self-critical as we get older? Was there a definitive transitional mark from adolescence to adulthood? With the pervasiveness of social media and diet culture, disordered eating has become normalized. I’m eager to bring body dysmorphia to the forefront of discussion while incorporating a good dose of humor.
