Hi, Yvonne Thompson here, I am giving an update on my Son Tharel Thompson's progress since his violent and life-threatening attack in February 2024.
I am seeking your continuing financial support to cover his medical bills as well as his daily living support. As a Mother of an only child, I am finding this request for support very challenging and painful, but I have no other alternative than to reach out to you for continuing support. As a Mother faced with this on-going situation, I wish and pray that no other parent should ever have to endure such.
As mentioned previously, my Son, a proud Barbadian citizen, came to the United Kingdom on holiday in February 2024 to visit family and explore new horizons. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a joyous family reunion turned into a nightmare, as Tharel was viciously attacked and stabbed in his head during a night out in the Walkabout Bar venue in Reading, Berkshire. The severity of Tharel's injuries required an extensive period of hospitalisation and head surgery.
Tharel is now on a crucial phase in his recovery that continues to demand rigorous rehabilitation and therapy treatment. You will see from the photos and videos attached that he is progressing well.
Tharel has had follow-up appointments at the John Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust to review his progress and readiness for a third head operation, to fit a titanium plate to cover his exposed brain membrane. I am pleased to update you that the assessment was positive and Tharel should be having that third operation anytime soon.
Despite Tharel's positive progress and his readiness for the third head operation to fit the
titanium plate, there is still the outstanding and ongoing NHS medical expenses which we must pay and which we as a family are unable to cover. There will also be additional major NHS cost for his third head operation. After Tharel's third operation there will be further rehabilitation and therapy treatment cost to ensure Tharel can recuperate in comfort and to enable us to return to his homeland of Barbados. Currently Tharel's outstanding NHS bill is more than £160,000 with additional cost for the operation and following treatments and therapies.
As a family we are doing everything within our power to support him, however the financial strain is immense and we cannot service it. Considering this, we are reaching out to compassionate organisations and individuals for your continuing support to help us alleviate this financial burden on our family and significantly contribute to Tharel's recovery and rehabilitation journey and enabling us to return to our homeland, Barbados.
Thanking you in advance for your support and generosity. We also want to express our thanks and appreciation to all who have generously donated to our appeal.
Yvonne Thompson.
