Thanksgiving meal-residents of Skies Nursing Home

Hello friends and family,

We are humbly asking for family and friends to help us raise funds to have a special Thanksgiving meal from Cracker Barrel to send to all the residents and staff at SKIES HEALTHCARE AND REHABILITATION CENTER in Albuquerque, NM. 

The holidays are always a very important time for families to get together and share special moments.  However, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything in 2020, including the way we will spend time with loved ones this holiday season. 

It is especially challenging for our loved ones who are in a skilled nursing healthcare facility.  Since this pandemic started, our family members have not been able to have in person visits since lockdowns in facilities began in March.  Additionally, now due to a Covid outbreak, our family members at SKIES HEALTHCARE are not able to have homecooked meals brought to them from their families. 

Our loved ones need to know they are loved very much and cared for even if we can't be with them.  They deserve to have a special Thanksgiving meal!  The staff taking care of our loved ones deserve a special thank you for all the care they are giving to those we love!  This is a difficult time for the residents AND the staff, and of course hard for ourselves, as families, to be away from our loved ones during this time.  

Cracker Barrel has Thanksgiving Heat and Serve meals that serve 8-10 people.  We have estimated approximately 100 residents and 50 staff at Skies, therefore we would need to raise funds to cover 15 packages of Thanksgiving Heat and serve meals at $140.00 each.   Including tax and fees, the approximate amount to raise is $2500.  ALL of this will go toward meals for the residents and staff, with the 2% fee to Go Fund Me (approx $50).  NONE of the funds raised will come to me, personally, except to pay for the meals.  However if there are extra funds raised above the goal, they will to toward a Christmas dinner fund.

The Cracker Barrel meal includes: 
2 turkeys
Cornbread dressing
Gravy
Cranberry relish
3 side dishes that serve 8-10 people
Yeast rolls
1 pumpkin and 1 pecan pie

We hope that you will open up your hearts, think of how you would feel if your Mother, Father, Grandparent or sibling were in a skilled nursing center and could not have personal visits for Thanksgiving and could not have a special homecooked meal prepared by you to give them.  This is just a little something to let them know we are thinking of them and let the staff know how much we appreciate them.  We are all thankful, especially in this Covid-19 year, for the love and time we are given with our families, even if it's just through window visits.  Please help show how you care by donating to our Go Fund Me fundraiser.  We know this year is especially hard with many out of work and tight budgets, as well as other fundraisers asking for help, but even $5 would help us raise funds for a special meal.    We will need to place the orders as soon as possible in order to ensure we can secure this quantity of meals by  November, 13th.  Any amount is greatly appreciated!
