Thanking Hello Games and Supporting SCHF
Hello Games has put in a heroic effort to get NMS to where it is today. As a community on we'd like to express our thanks.
The funds will be used to print and install a thank- you billboard in Guildford UK, within walking distance of the Hello Games LTD office. A portion of these funds will also be used to buy a case of beer and lunch for the team.
All excess funds will be donated to the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation.
I am in awe of the spirit of generosity that has been fostered through this project, our desire to give has spread positivity throughout the world.
As a kid who grew up playing video games, I never could have imagined that gaming would manifest such goodness in reality.
As a thankyou for helping me push this movement absolutely every step of the way, I offer you a couple of important updates:
- I listened to your feedback and I have brought back the OG black and white design that everyone loved.
- Some large donors have been in contact with me interested in supporting this movement.
- Several lunch and beer suppliers have been in touch to see how they can support our cause.
- A videographer and photographer has been organised for the r/giftofgaming donation day in Sydney, http://the10thletter.com/
- Several photographers have stepped forward to capture the Billboard in the UK, this is still being finalised, I encourage further enquiries.
Please follow r/thegiftofgaming and @thegiftofgaming on Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date with the donation day, and the billboard.
Also please help me spread awareness even further by using #thegiftofgaming on any content that exemplifies the spirit of bringing happiness and togetherness through gaming.
Stay tuned, Travellers, there are many more exciting updates to come.
Sean, if you are reading, thank you. Thank you for your dedication to NMS and thank you for your part in building such a wonderful community. I’m so excited to raise funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation because of YOUR game.
I’ve been busy working away at this updated design, and have come to a decision on what I will be doing with the excess funds.
So I had to change the message on the billboard as donations were no longer just from the subreddit, they came from travellers all over :) I also did a minor design update to echo some Beyond imagery that I found.
As for the charitable donations, I have chosen the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation https://www.schf.org.au as the recipient. This will be done in the name of Hello Games and the No Man’s Sky community in celebration of Beyond!
Our movement has gained A LOT of attention and I’m hoping the momentum can continue which is why I’m going to increase the goal to $6000 USD. I will still be keeping the campaign open until the 14th of July.
If anyone would like to get involved or in contact with me please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It has been amazing to see so many positive reactions to this, including from Shawn himself.
Thanks again, hope everyone has a great weekend.
So this blew up way more than I thought it would!
It's so inspiring to see that we can achieve as a community in order to show appreciation and recognition of Hello Games for their dedication and achievement in developing No Man's Sky.
I would like to take this chance to again thank each and everyone of you who has supported this gofundme. We have successfully raised more than enough funds to buy the billboard space, get them a case of beers, and a voucher for some good food. There were many generous supporters of this idea but it really was everyones combined effort that got it over the line.
The billboard location has been booked, the beers have been organised but I'm actually again looking for a restaurant voucher for them. Someone mentioned that they were Domino's connoisseurs? Is this true?
Yesterday I decided that all excess funds would be used to buy games and donate them to disadvantaged/sick kids. Well today I've been in touch with a local special needs school who I will be donating all the games/consoles to, I'll be posting pictures and maybe a video or two on reddit.com.r/thegiftofgaming. I created that subreddit yesterday to hopefully continue the idea of giving disadvantaged and sick kids access to gaming experiences.
I'm hoping people will use my subreddit not only to see an update on what I achieve with the funds but also as a place where they can share their own experiences on how gaming has helped someone or brought people together for a good cause.
I'll be posting further updates as things progress on r/nomansskythegame, r/thegiftofgaming, discord and on the gofundme page.
Once the billboard has been printed and installed I'll be looking for a local photographer to take some photos of it, if interested please send an email. Also if you want to get involved in some other way shoot me an email and we can have a chat.
We also have some time to get a finalised design ready, I've heard some great ideas about incorporating different meaningful design elements that I'm very open to. Please email me your ideas if you're interested in this.
Finally I'd like to say that I will be keeping this open until the 14th of July to raise more money in order to give gaming to sick/disadvantaged kids.
Thank you again everyone, I'll be replying to all my emails, messages and other questions as soon as possible.
So the billboard is a go, the beers are a go (ooo0o what did I choose?) and the food is kinda a go (I'm still researching a great place within range of them that I'd buy a voucher for). I was really impressed with what we as a subreddit were able to achieve out of support and recognition of Hello Games.
Which is why I'm 100% going to set up a charity drive to give games to sick kids at https://www.reddit.com/r/thegiftofgaming I thought if we have already achieved this in half of a day imagine what we could do to help kids who really need the joy, escape, and most importantly the beautiful shared experiences that you get in playing and simply talking to others who will listen.
So, I developed a plan for the last several hours that could allow this to take place in an efficient and realistic way. I'm going to detail it in a post in r/thegiftofgaming I'll share it here first and ask the moderators at r/gaming to help me share the cause too.
I just want to say thanks to everyone who donated, all excess funds will be going toward giving games to sick kids. I'm really excited to share my vision for this cause. I'll be updating everyone on the process of this through the gofundme page, reddit and on discord.
I'm hoping Hello Games can get behind us in spreading the word of the charity drive when they catch wind of this.
Okay, its time for some sleep, I've got a huge day planned tomorrow. Thank you again everyone!
