To say that being a high school athlete requires dedication is an understatement. The average two-sport varsity athlete plays in 40 games per year. Over their high school career, they will have participated in over 160 athletic events. While many of us parents, grandparents, teachers and friends do our best to attend these events in-person to cheer on our Camp Hill athletes, often it simply isn't possible.
Fortunately, we have had Luke Brown.
Luke Brown has covered 332 sporting events (and counting), streaming them live to his Facebook channel, Luke Brown Broadcasting. His live broadcasts have been watched more than 33,000 times. Thirty-three thousand times. 33,000 pairs of eyes have been able to catch the no-hitter, the incredible save, the amazing goal, and the behind-the-scenes interviews because of Luke Brown.
Many of us have been cheering on our incredible Camp Hill athletes from the comfort of our homes thanks to Luke Brown's tireless dedication. For thousands of hours at hundreds of events, he's volunteered his time and his skill to bring high school athletics to life through his live broadcasts. Whether you're a parent catching your child's game from afar, a grandparent cheering them on virtually, or a friend celebrating their friend's victory, Luke has connected our community to these special moments. But this was not without great sacrifice and dedication on Luke’s part.
Each successful broadcast, interview, or article is the result of extensive research and hours of preparation. While many students are playing games or chatting with friends during study hall, Luke is ducking into a closet to make a phone call to a coach or an athletic director. When Luke’s friends are headed to the golf course after school, Luke is in the library printing off rosters and making last minute lineup changes. While at the game his friends are in the student section cheering wildly, Luke is providing us with professional level coverage of our athletic programs.
As Luke pursues his dream of becoming a sports reporter at Rowan University this fall, we want to offer a way to show our collective gratitude. If you have benefitted from the incredible sports reporting of Luke Brown, this is a chance to contribute to his educational journey and say "thank you" for all he's given us. Any contribution, big or small, is a way to support Luke's future in sports reporting and show our appreciation for the gift he's given our community. We are all thrilled to see what is next for Luke Brown and his sports journalism career.
From all of us - thank you, Luke.
