Thank you for your kindness and your help
I was diagnosed with a rare disease; Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis. It is a narrowing of my
windpipe below my vocal cords. It is a life threatening medical condition that must be
treated. My doctor does not know what
caused it. I have tried steroids and have had 6 endoscopic dilations. In April my doctor recommended a more aggressive treatment plan of having a tracheal resection which is an uncommon surgery and he recommended
Mass General in Boston where this surgery
was developed by their surgeons and they are
the best. This is my only option if I want to
continue breathing. My surgery is scheduled
for 12/31 but we must leave for Boston the
day after Christmas due to all of the required pre op testing. I will be in the hospital for 5-7
days post- op and then I have to stay in Boston for at least 3 additional days in case there are any complications. So we will be in Boston for 14 days. My husband will have to stay in a
hotel the entire time and the cost alone for
that is over 2500.00 plus there will be costs
for our travel to and from Boston and food
too. I will be off of work for approximately 7
weeks maybe more depending on my
recovery. I will take all of my PTO but that will only cover my pay for 4 weeks the rest of my
time off will be unpaid. Anything that you can give will be greatly, greatly appreciated. I love my family and hope to be here with them for many more years to come.
