UPDATE! Christopher has been through a total of 7 surgeries so far. Right now the primary focus is on getting his infections under control (he currently has 3) and keeping his wound site clean to help with healing.
He has a wound vac that gets changed out every 2-3 days, 3 urine drains, a catheter, a separate abdomen drain, and a colostomy bag.
As of now we expect him to be in the hospital another 2 weeks before moving to long term rehabilitation where he will have to regain basic functions. Because he lost nearly all of his abdominal wall and core muscles, relearning to walk (with support) will be the primary focus.
Chris has been through many ups and down with numerous complications but the love and support from his family and friends is keeping him strong. We will never be able to express how much gratitude we have for his medical team and everyone involved in his recovery. He’s still got a long way to go but we are so proud of his progress so far and appreciate the support more than you can ever know

On the morning of August 5th, 2023 my cousin Christopher Chinn’s life was changed forever. He was exhausted driving home from his second job after working 18 hours a day for the prior week, and fell asleep at the wheel. He suffered tremendous life-threatening injuries and underwent a 10 hour surgery, the first of many, to save his life. Due to extensive damage to his abdomen and organs, he has been sedated multiple times, has had 4 surgeries so far and will continue to undergo more procedures over the next several weeks and months. Throughout his time in the hospital, his parents (mom Jackie and dad David), have been by his bedside to advocate for and support him every step of the way. However, with his 26th birthday approaching there will be a lapse in his medical insurance. We are uncertain how the hospital will handle that, and what his out of pocket costs and deductibles will total.
Because his injuries are so extensive, even when he is stable enough to leave the hospital his medical care will continue at an inpatient rehabilitation center where he will get round the clock care and the physical therapy he needs. The family is taking it hour by hour, day by day and is asking for love and prayers to be sent Chris’s way. Though he has already dealt with more than most can imagine, when Chris is awake he remains kind and appreciative to his care team even through his pain. The love and support from family and friends is what keeps him going and fighting.
Chris is the kind of person that would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and is one of the kindest, funniest, hardest working humans I know. He is dedicated to his family and friends, he is a loving son, cousin, uncle to his little cousins, and the best friend you could have. Thank you for all of your love, support, and prayers and any help you can give our family to help through the most difficult of times.
