We would like to host an appreciation event for our beloved principal of Our Lady of Grace School in Castro Valley who has served our parish for 35 years (29 as a teacher and 6 as a principal) but who has recently been terminated by the Diocese of Oakland. It was NOT for child abuse or fiscal malfeasance but there has been no transparency beyond that in terms of the actual reason. No one knows the thinking or intentions of the Diocese but for many of us, what we "know for sure" is that this person who has dedicated her life to our community has not been treated with the love and respect that she deserves. The way that it has been handled has been absolutely shocking and a real test to the faith of many of us who are taught by this same Church about love, forgiveness and mercy.

We had planned to at least have a simple recognition event for her where people could come and thank her and wish her farewell which was going to be held at the parish hall. A few days ago, we learned that the Diocese has forbade the parish to have anything for her on parish property due to the chance of a possible lawsuit pending. Disgraceful and the antithesis of our beliefs!

This GoFundMe is to raise funds for an event to be held off “church” property to recognize this wonderful educator and principal. We hope to have around 300 guests(or more, if able), hold it on a Saturday or Sunday in the fall and have very simple food and beverages. It’s really just to have an opportunity for the community to say thank you and goodbye. Date TBD. It won’t “right the wrong” in our minds but hopefully it will show Susan how much she is valued and loved. All funds raised will go towards the cost of the event with the remainder, if any, going as a gift of appreciation to her.

You may be a parish or school family and just want to show Susan your love and support. You may be someone who is not even of our faith but want to show Susan that there is still love, kindness and justice in this world and/or show the Diocese of Oakland that it is not what you say or teach but what you do and live.
