Last week, our family’s beloved cat went missing. As you can imagine, we were heartbroken and worried sick. Our pets are not “just pets” — they are family, and this cat has become an especially important emotional support pet in our home. Then, this week, we received an unexpected blessing. A man named David Garcia, who helped save our cat, found her on I-10 near the Fountains area. Our family lives on the west side of El Paso, so we still have no idea how she managed to get all the way there. What we do know is that she was in a dangerous situation, and Mr. Garcia stopped to help her when he absolutely did not have to. He went out of his way to rescue her and make sure she was safe.

During their conversation, Mr. Garcia shared that he has rescued cats of his own. He is retired, helps care for his grandchild, and often does DoorDash. He could have easily driven past and continued with his day, but instead, he chose compassion. Our family wants to recognize Mr. Garcia for being a true Good Samaritan. His simple act of kindness meant the world to our family, and they hope to turn this into an opportunity to pay that kindness forward. This fundraiser is a thank-you for David’s time, effort, and compassion, and a way to support someone who so often helps others.
