If you're here, it's safe to say you probably know that my mother and I stopped in for lunch after a long day of therapy to a spot called Hole in One Bagel Deli.
6 months ago, my mother suffered a stroke and still struggles with walking and speaking. From the moment we walked in, the manager Chris showed us incredible grace and patience, even coming around the counter to assist me to decipher what my mom wanted to order while juggling the needs of other customers, but never making us feel like a burden through the difficult moment. In truth, I'm not sure I would have figured out what she wanted on my own. After serving us our lunch, he came over to our table a final time to drop off a complimentary pastry and quietly let me know that the meal was on the house.
It took everything in me not to sob inside this deli. After 15 years in hospitality, I can't remember the last time I've felt so moved by kindness.
You've probably seen the video of me sobbing trying re-count this experience. In 36 hours, I've received over a thousand comments and messages inspired by what Chris did for me and my mother.
I want to pay it further some more. I'd love to gift Chris a surprise for his generosity. I know so many of you are not close enough to visit the deli, but I hope you'll join me in showing some kindness in return.
Because what is the point of life if we can't be nice once in awhile.
