What was meant to a two week trip to Zambia turned into 3 months of being here. During my time being home, I reflected a lot on the words “Connection” and “Gratitude.” It’s been refreshing connecting back to home and the very rich culture deeply rooted in Zambia. It also made me appreciate the family, friends and everything else around me and most importantly, being present.
Thank You 4 Being There is a song I did back in April, at the peak of the COVID 19 pandemic. My train of thought at the time was how to show my appreciation for my parents, little brother, family and friends who I was so far away from. Music was the first thing that came to mind. After finishing the song, little did I know that I would have to take an emergency flight back to Zambia to renew my visa. God made it possible for me to reconnect with my family, friend and beautiful country to showcase this message to the world.
My heart is always with my country, Zambia and in transforming the lives of the youth. Having said that, I am working with Zambia Alliance for Empowered Communities (ZAFEC) / Pink House to help girls and young women in local communities by empowering and encouraging them through accessibility to opportunities in ICTs.
I was mainly raised by my mother and my aunts, so I grew in a household of women. In the world we live today, women aren't given many opportunities to pursue and proposer in. My mum's passion and focus is girls in ICTs. As a man, I wanted to take a stance on helping girls and young women by using the catalytic power of music to bring awareness to the issue. I’m a current graduate student in Atlanta pursuing a MFA in Advertising and my dissertation topic is “utilizing music as an educational tool to bring forth Sustainable impact.”
