On August 7, Thad fell approximately 50 feet off a ravine while mountain biking with friends. EMS rescued him by boat and he was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO for evaluation of injuries and then transferred to Cox Medical in Springfield, MO.
His injuries are:
5 broken vertebrae (1 cervical, 3 thoracic, 1 lumbar)
3 broken ribs on one side and 2 broken on the other (all lower ribs)
Femur fracture (near the head around his hip)
Tibia/fibula fracture
His most serious injury is the open book pelvic fracture. He lost a lot of blood internally from this injury. He continued to lose blood until his surgery Saturday morning. In this surgery they put pins in his pelvis, on both sides, securing them together with a metal bar (they call this external fixation) to temporarily hold the pelvis in place until his major pelvic reconstruction surgery (tentatively on 8/13/20 ). This same procedure was done down his left leg to stabilize the fractures to his femur, tib/fib.
Thad has a long road to recovery and thankfully, an army of support to travel with.
This GoFundMe has been created to ease the burden of household expenses during his recovery as well as provide temporary accommodations for Thad's wife Courtney, daughters Alexis & Alyssa & their family during his hospital stay.
